Mr. Marc (Marcell) Stewart Simpson, age 82 of Franklin, KY, entered into rest Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 9:38 PM at the Franklin Simpson Nursing & Rehab in Franklin, KY.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY.
A native of Simpson Co., KY he was the son of the late Mrs. Maurine Stewart Simpson and a graduate of the University of Kentucky.
He was a professional singer and actor. Sang on the old Ted Mack Amateur Hour television show from New York; recorded for Columbia records; had six singles and three albums. Toured extensively in the United States and Canada with the Jerry Lee Louis Show. Appeared on shows with Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, and Johnny Cash. Sang on the Grand Ole Opry, traveled on shows with Carl Smith and Jimmy Newman. Acted on the Dinner Theater Circuit. Was a pioneer in the Song Poem Business written about in a book about that unique American music phenomenon during the 1960’s and 1970’s; sang for Governors Clement and Ellington of Tennessee; sang in musical comedies in Nashville; was a member of the original cast of “I Hear America Singing” show at Opryland; toured England; appeared on TV commercials; and modeled. He was a Christian Scientist; a Kentucky Colonel; and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Survived by two nephews, Alan Simpson of Nashville, TN, Bruce Simpson of Albuquerque, NM, and a favorite cousin, Kim Lorenzo. He always “marched to the beat of a different drummer”.
