Former Mayor William H. "Bill" Gentry, age 72 of Franklin, Ky., entered into rest Monday, January 23, 2012 at 8:10 P. M. at the Medical Center in Franklin, KY.
A native of Simpson Co., Ky., he was the son of the late Everette Thomas Gentry and the late Erness Simmons Gentry. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Neil and Joe Gentry.
He is survived by his wife Betty Jones Gentry, 2 daughters Betsy Gentry Wynn (Chris) of Franklin, TN. and Bethany Gentry Hardcastle (Herb) of Franklin, Ky., a sister Nina Gentry Kappesser of Louisville, KY., and 6 Grandchildren.
Mr. Gentry was a member of the Franklin First United Methodist Church where he had sung in the choir and a Sunday School Teacher and was chair person on the Administrative Board. He was elected to four terms to the Franklin City Council serving from 1986 thru 1993. He was elected to Mayor in 1994 and served a five year term till 1998. He has served on the Planning and Zoning Board and Electric Plant Board. and was Past President of the Franklin Rotary Club. Mr. Gentry was a 1957 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School and a Western KY. University Graduate. He worked in the research and development for Lenk/Drackett Co. and retired from the Kendall Company. He was an avid gardener and bird watcher and loving Grandfather.
