Mr. Walter John Herrmann, age 79, of Franklin, KY, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at his residence.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. A rosary service will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 403 North Main Street in Franklin, KY. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY with military rites performed by the Simpson County Honor Guard.
John was born on August, 28, 1944 in Bronx, New York to the late Werner John Herrmann and the late Agnes Wendell Hermann. He is also preceded in death by a son, Andrew Werner Hermann and a sister, Rita Noraga.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Paula Horvath Hermann; one daughter, Katherine Ausbrooks (Jeremy) of Greenville, TN; four grandchildren, Paula Kay Graham (Dakota), Brittany LeAnn Epley (Zachary), William John Herrmann of Campbellsville, KY and Mary Ann Michelle Bagwell of Franklin, KY; three great-grandchildren, Madelyn Michelle Graham, Aria Jane Graham and Aspyn Kate Epley; and two siblings, Peter Herrmann, of White Plains, NY and Patricia Asabu of Osaka, Japan.
Mr. Herrman was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Franklin, KY and also attended mass at The Fathers of Mercy, Auburn, KY. John earned three bachelors degrees at Nashua Community College in data processing, business management and family counseling and was a retired IT Security Specialist for the State of Tennessee. He was proud to be ranked a 7th degree black belt in Goju Ryu/Karate and taught martial arts for fifty-five years. John was very involved with indigenous cultures and their ceremonies. In addition, he was a veteran of the United States Army specifically a missile-site coordinator in Kitzingen, Germany; at one point, he was the youngest person to ever rank as a Sergeant. In his earlier days, he was a tool and dye maker, built drag cars, drag-raced, and a horse trainer/ rider. He and his wife, at one time, bred Tennessee Walking Horses. Over the years, he built three houses up and down the east coast. Mr. Herrman was still an active member of the Simpson County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be expressed in his memory to The Fathers of Mercy, 806 Shaker Museum Rd., Auburn, KY 42206. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
