Mr. Thomas “Tom” Edward Gillespie, age 85, of Franklin, KY., passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 12:27 AM at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 13th at Gilbert Funeral Home with burial to follow in Peden Mill Cemetery in Simpson County with military honors by the Simpson County Honor Guard.
Tom was born August 14th of 1934 in Simpson County to the late Stanley Gillespie and the late Virginia Booker/Pierce. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Johns Gillespie. He was also preceded in death by a son, Eddie Gillespie and a daughter Stephanie Todd Gillespie Carr.
He is survived by his children, a son, Bill David Belveal (Mary Beth) of Franklin, KY., a son, Richard Eric Gillespie (Sherry) of Akron, OH., a son, Marshall Troy Gillespie (Lori) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH., 2 grandchildren, Amanda Vignieri and Chelsea Perry.
Tom was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church. He was in the Franklin Rotary Club, Franklin Country Club, the Hardee’s Morning Coffee Club, and the Circumnavigators Club. He served in the Air Force and during Vietnam, he was a navigator/bombardier on a B47 stratajet. Tom earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida. He worked as a Project Manager for Shell Oil Company.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 12th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Sunday, October 13th from 6:00 AM to funeral service time on Sunday at Gilbert Funeral Home.
