Sarah L. Jackson Smith, age 91, Louisville, KY, formerly of Franklin, KY passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 3, 2019.
Born June 30, 1927, Sarah was the daughter of the late J. H. Jackson and Allie Reeder Jackson. She was raised in the Drake community of Warren Co. After high school Sarah attended Western Kentucky University, completing her undergrad in 1948, Masters in 1964 and Rank 1 in 1968. She taught at Franklin- Simpson Middle School for over 35 years.
Sarah was a member of the Franklin First Baptist Church, Kentucky Retired Teachers, Simpson Co. Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution, as a past regent. She enjoyed hobbies and projects to keep her engaged including: Genealogy, reading, painting and crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Price Smith, Jr., two sons: James Carl and Stephen Price Smith and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary J. and Carl Thomas. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca A. Smith Berry (Philip), daughter-in-law Barbara Smith Swearingen (Jim), four grandchildren: Stephanie A. Smith Maxwell (Kemp), Andrew B. Smith (Laura), Jay P. Berry (Leah) and Patrick M. Berry. As well as six great-grandchildren: Asher, Raleigh and Witt Maxwell, Jackson and Ava Kate Smith, and Jude Berry.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9 at 2pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until service time. Please join in sharing your favorite memories of Sarah at the service.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the First Baptist Church, Franklin. KY, Simpson Co. Historical Society or charity of your choice.
A private interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
