Sarah Elizabeth Brizendine Richardson died July 3, 2011, at Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort, Kentucky, after suffering from various long illnesses, including Alzheimer's Disease. She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell Moore Richardson, both of Frankfort, Kentucky. She and Wendell had two children, Joe T. Richardson (Deborah) and Lucy Richardson of Frankfort, Kentucky. Sarah had two grandchildren, Ryan Richardson, and Brandon Richardson, also of Lexington, Kentucky.
Sarah was the sister the late Thomas Brizendine, of Franklin, Kentucky, and the late Robert and Joe Henry Brizendine who died as children. Sarah was the daughter of the late Joe T. and Alma Brizendine, all of Franklin, Kentucky.
Mrs. Richardson was very active in her family genealogy, and branched out into writing two books on the cemeteries of Simpson County, Kentucky and Sumner County, Tennessee, to help families locate their ancestors. Sarah was a charter member of the Simpson County Historical Society, who later worked very hard with others to straighten out important old records stored in the old jail. She was also a member of the Lake Springs Homemakers Club and assisted in programs at the local library such as teaching adults to read. She also assisted in leadership in the Simpson County 4-H club for years.
After graduating from Western Kentucky University (known then as the Western Kentucky Teacher's college) she began teaching at the Franklin city schools and then at the newly formed combined Franklin- Simpson school system for over 25 years. She was treasurer for the Franklin-Simpson Extension Office Council for decades and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifetime member of the Tyree Chapel Church of Christ doing extra duties for the church.
