Obituary of Sarah Louise (Moyers) Moats

February 6, 1942 – June 25, 2019

Sarah Louise was affectionately known to all Her Family and Friends as “Nanny”.  She was born on February 6th, 1942 to the late Robert Leslie “Granddaddy” and Beatrice Mann “Grandmother” Moyers.  She was proceeded in death by Brothers Thomas “Tom” Moyers and Glen Ware.  Surviving Brothers are William L. (wife Arlene) Moyers, Jerry F. (wife Judy) Moyers, and Larry (wife Janice) Moyers.

Sarah is survived by her devoted husband Robert Gerald “Pappy, or Jerry” Moats. They were united in marriage on June 13th, 1959, by Elder Arnet G. Gregory.  They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage!  To this union before God, they were blessed with two daughters, Debbie Lou Sanford (husband Ronnie Ray), and Rhonda Lynn Spurgeon (husband Ronald Gene) of Franklin, KY.  Nanny was an Old Fashioned Missionary Baptist saved, and baptized into the fellowship of Drakes Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, KY, and most recently a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, Woodburn, KY.  She was also a very engaged member of Fairview Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY for many years.  She worked at Hughes Goodrum-Market, was a homemaker, and baby-sat many children over the years.  God, Family, and Friends were her passion.  She deeply loved and prayed for her Family, pastors, other members of the church, and neighbors. She loved Her Family more than words can say.

She has 7 Grandchildren & 16 Great-Grandchildren: Stephanie D. & Carlton Hogan (Koby, Kaden, Evan & Cora), Amy M. & Taylor Chambers (Matthew, Jacob & One on the Way!), Paul D. Sanford, Leslie M. & Thomas Moran (Elsie & Emmie), Sara Beth & Travis Garner (Logan, Madelynn & Isaiah), Heather L. & Tate Anderson (Sawyer & Gracie), Evan “Luke” & Kristy Spurgeon (Hannah & Hope)

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:00 PM  Friday, June 28, 2019 with burial to follow in the Drakes Creek Church Cemetery in Simpson Co., KY.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, June 27, 2019 and from 6:00 AM until funeral service time on Frdiay at Gilbert Funeral Home.
