Sarah Frances Potts Ferguson, 88, died , October 19 , 2014 in Corpus Christi, Texas. A native of Simpson County, she was the daughter of the late Desford Chapman and Etta Boyd Potts, and was married for 56 years to the late Jack Harrison Ferguson before his death in 2002.
She graduated from Simpson County High School in 1942 and worked at banks in Nashville and Bowling Green before marriage. She was a charter member of the Simpson County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and held most offices in the chapter including a term as Regent. She also belonged to the Magna Carta Dames, Daughters of the American Colonists, and Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. She grew up attending McKendree Methodist Church in Simpson County then joined the Franklin First United Methodist Church as an adult where she was a long-time member of the United Methodist Women and chancel choir, and was the first woman to serve as a church trustee.
She is survived by her daughter Ellen Ferguson of Lexington, daughter and son-in-law Lu Ann Ferguson and Randal Johns, her grandchildren Andrew Ferguson Johns and Hannah Ferguson Johns, all of Port Aransas, Texas, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
