Sarah Jo Cardwell

Ms. Sarah Jo Cardwell, age 79, of Franklin, KY, entered into rest Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at 2:00 AM at the Medical Center in Franklin, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Franklin First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Sulphur Spring Cemetery.

A native of Simpson Co., KY., she was the daughter of the late Herbert Dalton Cardwell and Edna Josephine Forshee Cardwell.  She was preceded in death her sister and brother in law, Dicie Cardwell Furnish and Michael Furnish.

She is survived by 2 sisters Judy Maynard (Larry) of Okeechobee, Fl., and Helen Cardwell-Warren (Joe) of Franklin, KY., a niece Sonia Jean Furnish of Franklin, KY., a nephew Brian Thomas Rohrs of Franklin, KY. and several other extended family members.

Ms. Cardwell was a member of the Franklin First United Methodist Church, and was retired teacher.  She taught health and P.E.  and was girls track coach, cheerleading sponsor and Girls Athletic Association Sponsor at the Franklin-Simpson High School.  She was guidance counselor; girls track coach and 8th grade boy’s basketball coach at Shepardsville Middle School in Shepardsville, KY.  She was very active in her community serving in several organizations such D.A.R., A.A.R.P., Simpson County Retired Teachers, Simpson County Historical Society, Simpson County Tourism Commission, Franklin African American Heritage Center, and Simpson County Archives.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2016 and from 6:00 AM until 9:00 AM Friday at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home.  The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until funeral service time at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Simpson County Historical Society.
