Robert "Jerry ~ Pappy" Gerald Moats

Robert Gerald (Jerry ~ Pappy) Moats of 708 North Street, Franklin, KY was born January 10th, 1940 to the late Carl C. Moats and Elizabeth (Hill) Moats.  He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 60 years, Sarah Louise (Moyers) Moats and brother, Jimmy Moats (wife, Lee).  To this Union, God Blessed them with two beautiful Daughters, Debbie Lou Sanford (Ronnie Ray) and Rhonda Lynn Spurgeon (Ronald Gene).  Jerry/Pappy went Home to Heaven on July 23rd, 2023 to personally meet His Loving Savior Jesus Christ – Face to Face.  He was saved at the age of 19, during a revival at Drakes Creek Missionary Baptist Church.  He was the first baptism of the Late Elder Pete Porter.  Brother Jerry was a dedicated member of the following Churches (Drakes Creek, Fairview Memorial, Fairview at Woodburn, KY, and most recent was Loved by everyone at Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Bethpage, TN.  He was a Goldenrod Dairy route delivery employee for 36 years, upon retirement.  He never met a stranger and was one of the friendliest men to live on Earth.  He loved to FISH!  He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish with His two Grandsons Luke and Paul David, and continued that passion with his Great-Grandsons.  He was a devoted Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather.  He had 7 Grandchildren: Stephanie Hogan (Carlton), Amy Chambers (Taylor), Leslie Moran (Tom), Sara Beth Garner (Travis), Heather Lynn Anderson, Evan Luke Spurgeon (Kristy), and Paul David Sanford (Emily); 18 Great-Grandchildren: Koby Cherry (Trinity), Kaden Cherry (Angel), Evan Phippin, Cora Hogan, Matthew Bean, Jacob Bean, Maggie Chambers, Carter Chambers, Elsie Moran, Emmie Moran, Logan Garner, Madelynn Garner, Isaiah Garner, Eliza Kay Garner, Sawyer Anderson, Gracie Anderson, Hannah Spurgeon, and Hope Spurgeon, and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter Cove Ryan Cherry; 1 sister, Judy Peppers (Willie); and 1 brother, Brother Bill Moats (Cynthia); and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Tuesday, July 24, 2023 from 6:00 AM til 11:00 AM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24th at 11:00 AM with interment to follow in Drakes Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
