Rebecca (Becky) Empson Mayes Mobley, age 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on October 26,2023. She was born November 14,1930 in Franklin, Kentucky to the late Melvin and the late Virginia (Cavett) Empson. Becky grew up on the family farm in Franklin and attended Bowling Green Business University (now Western Univ). She married her childhood sweetheart, J.C. Mayes, in 1951 and they moved to Indianapolis where they lovingly raised their family together until J.C.'s death in 1989.
Becky was an executive secretary at Wheaton Van Lines for over 30 years where she made good use of her excellent organizational and administrative skills. She married Russell Mobley in 1993 and moved to Sharpsville, Indiana. After Russ's death in 1997, she returned to Indianapolis to enjoy her time with family, weekly card games, and traveling the world with friends and family. She cruised the Mediterranean Sea and Caribbean, went white-water river rafting in Alaska, walked PGA tournaments in Maui, basked on beaches in Aruba, and explored magnificent castles in Turkey. She combined her love of music and travel through trips to Branson and Hershey PA to see numerous shows.
Becky showed her love for her Lord by the way she lived her life and served her church. She played piano and served in children's ministries for over 60 years and baked 100's of delicious cookies each Christmas to deliver to friends and shut-ins. The "swinging seventies" group from Castleview Baptist Church enjoyed the many games, trips and events she helped plan.
Becky is survived by her children David (Jane) Mayes and Donna (David “Louie” ) LaPlant, grandchildren Stacey (Allen) Miller, Wendy (Paul) Mayes-Beasly, Joe Gloeckner, Joey LaPlant, Billy LaPlant, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband J.C. Mayes and husband Russell Mobley.
