Raymond W. Malchow, age 96, peacefully passed in his home Monday, July 30, 2018.
Born in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, son of the late Walter and Hattie Malchow.
Joined the US Army and served from July 1943 - April 1946.
Mr. Malchow attained rank of Staff Sergeant (squad leader and platoon guide). Awarded Combat Infantry Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, 3 battle stars and various service ribbons.
He moved to Franklin, Kentucky, in 1962 with Kendall Company as a mechanical engineer till his retirement in 1987.
He was an active member of American Legion and VFW. He initiated the American Legion baseball team in 1964.
He and his partner, Charlie White, were land surveyors in South Central Kentucky for many years. He was Planning & Zoning director, building inspector and served on the Board of Adjustments for many years.
He was a member of Franklin First United Methodist Church since 1970.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Anna, in 2005. As well as his brothers Gene and Virgil.
He is survived by son, Dr. Glenn Malchow, Bowling Green, KY, daughter Susan Layne, Franklin, KY, grandchildren Kim Lewis Bibb, Franklin, TN, and Craig Malchow, Steamboat Springs, CO., great grandchildren Mackenzie, Allyson and Connor Lewis and special friend Terry McGuire, Nashville, TN.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert Funeral Home, Franklin, KY. He chose cremation and will be interred at Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, KY in a private ceremony. A memorial service will be held at Franklin First United Methodist Church Saturday, August 18, 2018, 4:30pm.
Visitation prior to service at the church from 2:30-4:30.
