Mr. John Thomas "J. T." Ellis, age 86 of Franklin, KY.., entered into rest Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY.
A native of Simpson Co., KY., he was the son of the late Lawrence Reed Ellis and the late Johnnie Mary Lewis Ellis. He was preceded in death by a infant son John Wayne Ellis and 3 brothers Sam Ellis, Bobby Ellis and Buck Ellis.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Marianne Terrell Ellis, a daughter Linda Lou London (Wayne), 2 sons Thomas Micheal Ellis (Vicki) and John W. Ellis ( Amy) all of Franklin, KY.; 6 grandchildren: Jay Ellis, Jonathan Ellis, Josh London, Amanda Deweese, Hanna Kirby and Chelsea Ellis; 6 great grandchildren: Jaycie Ellis, Jacob Ellis, Harlin Dewesse, Nolin Dewesse, Ellie Jo Miller and Chloe Ann Kirby.
Mr. Ellis served in the United States Navy from November of 1943 until 1946 during World War II. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans aboard the USS LST 995; going through the Panama Canal making two invasions. He was in Saipan, waiting to invade Japan when World War II ended. He went into the excavating business with Harris and Ellis Construction and later as Ellis Excavating for over 40 years. In his retirement he was associated with Ellis Auto Sales. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky and Franklin-Simpson High School athletics. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, V. F. W. Post 5706 and the American Legion Post 62.
