Mary E. (Pais) Darnell

Mary Elizabeth Pais Darnell, age 77,  died December 15, 2017 at Greenwood Nursing & Rehab,

Bowling Green, KY of multiple health issues.  Burial of her ashes was with her immediate family at Elmwood Cemetery, Springfield, TN.  Gilbert Funeral Home, Franklin, KY was in charge of arrangements.  She previously resided at Lewis Assisted Living, Franklin, KY. The family is grateful to these facilities for their competent, compassionate assistance.

Mary was born in Pineville, WV on May 19, 1940, to Victor and Pauline Arangio Pais and graduated from Pineville High School in 1958.  She aspired to be an elementary teacher and attended Western KY Teachers College (now Western KY University) in Bowling Green, KY.

Later she earned a Licensed Practical Nursing certification from General Hospital, Nashville, TN in 1965 and practiced nursing, mainly children and seniors, in the Nashville, Bowling Green and Columbus, OH areas.

Mary was preceded in death by her father in Pineville and by her mother in Franklin; husband Will T Darnell, daughter Ginger Ann Darnell (born Dec. 15, 1972) and two stepdaughters in Nashville; nephew infant Luke Pais; brothers-in-law Harold Carmical and Lannie Gilliam.

Surviving are siblings Joann (Major) Bradford and Mark (Joyce) Pais, Franklin; Veronica (Jimmy) Diemer and Patty Carmical, Bowling Green; Vicky Jo Gilliam (Brian) Swier, Columbus, OH; five adult nephews (Steve, Patrick, Major, Joseph Bradford; Lannie Gilliam) and eight adult nieces (Debbie Jo, Patti, Kathy Diemer; Michelle Carmical; Christy, Charlotte, Stephanie Gilliam; Abbey Pais).

Following their Italian family tradition of taking care of family members in need all of Mary’s siblings assisted her during her final year of life which included intense suffering.

Through the mercy of God, may she now rest in peace.
