Mr. Lee Roy Hughes Jr., age 90 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 3:25 P.M. at his residence.

A native of Simpson Co., Ky. he was the son of the late Lee Roy Hughes Sr. and the late Bera Pauline Walker Hughes. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Ginny Moore and a brother Harry Glenn Hughes.

He is survived by his wife Mary D. Hughes, 3 children Hope Hughes of New York, N.Y., Mary Lee Moore of Madison, TN. and Lee R. Hughes III of East Sandwich, MA., 4 grandchildren Mary Ann and Leslie Moore and Ashley and Justin Slater.

Mr. Hughes was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, past president of the Franklin Rotary Club and Franklin Chamber of Commerce, vice president of Kentucky Retail Hardware Association, served on the Kentucky Bankers Association, served on the state Economic Development Board under Gov. Bert Combs administration and founding member of the Franklin Country Club. He was a 1939 Franklin High school graduate, he was the only 1st team All-State Basketball player chosen from Franklin, a UK graduate with an economics degree, and is a UK Fellow. Mr. Hughes retired from Franklin Bank and Trust and former Co-owner of Hughes' Hardware Store. He was a WWII Army Veteran.
