Lawrence Leroy Johns

Mr. Lawrence Leroy Johns, age 91 of Franklin, KY, passed away on Friday, July 7th, 2023 at 1:31 PM at his residence in Franklin, KY.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9th 2023 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will continue on Monday, July 10th from 6:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 PM with interment to follow at Hillsdale Cemetery in Simpson Co., KY with military honors given by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

Lawrence was born on March 15th, 1932 in Simpson Co., KY, to the late Henry Lester Johns and the late Vercie Ella Lawrence. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Gorham Johns and his brother William L. “Billy” Johns.

He is survived by 4 children, Kathy White Brogli (Herbert) of Somerset, KY, Michael Ray White (Bonnie) of Auburn, KY, Nelda Lee Johns Towe (Terry) of Franklin, KY and Gina Elizabeth Hendricks (Danny) of Franklin, KY; 2 sisters, Ida Ruth Mirrilla of Lanesville, IN and Martha Jane Moody of Bowling Green, KY; 7 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren and ex-wife and best friend Nell Johns of Franklin, KY.

Lawrence was a member of Macedonia General Baptist Church in Franklin, KY. He received his GED while serving in the Navy from 1951-1955. He was avid quilter, loved to fish, play rook and he loved the Lord. He was saved at the age of 64.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hillsdale Cemetery Fund in care of Cliff Spears, 1130 Roark Rd. Franklin, KY. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
