Laura Stewart Hudson, the tenth child born to the late James and Erie Stewart departed this life at 11:11 AM the 31st of January, Saturday 2015.
She was born on February 21, 1923 in Franklin, Kentucky.
She accepted church at an early age and joined the Alpha Baptist Church of Franklin, Kentucky.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Franklin, Kentucky, Bachelors degree Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Kentucky, Masters degree Governors State University, Park Forest South, Illinois and graduate of Moody Bible Institute Evening School, Chicago, Illinois.
She served as a faithful member of the Alpha Baptist Church, Franklin, Kentucky until moving to Chicago. After moving to Chicago she joined the Woodburn Union Baptist Church; where she served as an usher, Sunday school teacher and later appointed superintendent of Sunday school until she met and married Finus Columbus Hudson and became a member of Greater Bethesda Baptist Church. Continuing her dedication to the service of The Lord, she served as a Sunday school teacher in the Primary Department and member of the Candlelight Club and served as the club’s president for five years.
She was employed as a primary teacher in the Chicago Public School System for 32 years.
She was a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., NAACP, Bridge Club, playing bridge was her passion and various civic and social groups.
She loved and lived a simple life and would love to be remembered for her humility.
Her favorite scriptures: Deuteronomy 29:29 and I Samuel 16:7, Favorite songs: “Jesus Is All the World to Me” and “Oh, How I Loved Jesus” and favorite poem: “Footprints”
She is preceded in death by her husband- Finus Columbus Hudson, five sisters; Alene (Hershell) Duncan, Irene (Shirlie) Edison, Flora Mae Stewart, Hartense Stewart and Hassie Stewart., four brothers; Clarence (Frances) Stewart, Charlie Stewart, Otis Stewart and Vernon Stewart and one stepson Finus Daryl Hudson.
She leaves to cherish her memories- one stepdaughter Judge Myra (Pat) (Dixon), 2 step granddaughters; Kyra Dixon and Myrlaum Walker, 2 step grandsons; Pat D. Dixon and Finus Daryl Hudson, Jr. 2 devoted great nieces; Sharon and Marsha Bailey who cared for her in their homes for almost 2 years; until her death, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Last but nowhere close to least, her 3 weekly telephone friends who kept her spirits high Katherine Clark, Chestine Allen and Evonne Gregwor.
Cemetery:
Mrs. Hudson wishes were for her remains to be laid to rest next to her husband in Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago, IL.
