Larry "Bear" Douglas Alford

Mr. Larry “Bear” Douglas Alford, age 77, of Portland, TN, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at his residence in Portland, TN.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory with burial to follow in Whites Chapel Cemetery in Drake, KY.

Larry was born on August 2, 1947 in Portland, TN to the late Garland Condet Alford and the late Eunice “Toon” (McDonald) Alford. He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathan Scott; 3 siblings; Lanny Alford, Patricia Coffee, Lenda Mock.

He is survived by his spouse of 44 years, Kim Alford of Portland, TN; 3 sons, Chris Alford (Amy) of Gallatin, Jasper Alford (Kristin) of Portland, TN and Jordan Alford of Portland, TN; a daughter, Amie Armstrong of Franklin, KY; 6 grandchildren, Triston Alford, Barrett West, Noah Alford, Isaiah Armstrong, Elijah Armstrong, Willa Jean Davenport; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy Alford of Somerset, KY; a sister; Peggy Crafton of Franklin, KY; several nieces and nephews.

Larry was a member of El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School. He worked at Peterbilt Manufacturing and was a former co-owner of Larry and Lanny South Side Market. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, farming and watching nascar.
