Joe Moss James

Mr. Joe Moss James, age 86 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Sunday, February 26, 2017 at New Haven Assisted Living in Franklin, KY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home.  A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Gilbert Funeral Home.  Cremation was chosen. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY. with military honors to be conducted by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

A native of Simpson Co., KY., he was the son of the late John Washington James and the late Ida Belle Hammond James.  He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Young James, brothers Jack, Dick and Bill James, sister Jane James Martin and loyal dog Taylor.

He is survived by three daughters Trudi Nelson (Jim) of Bluffton, SC., Kay Reis of Lexington, KY., Ida Jan James Murphree of Franklin, KY., and son Joe Young James (Penny) of Plainfield, IN.;  five grandchildren Jack James, Jim Murphree, Katy Murphree, Jody Gardiner, Brett Nelson and three great grandchildren.

Mr. James was a farmer and a former Simpson County Judge Executive for twelve years and a Simpson County Sheriff for four years. He served as a Korean Army veteran and was a 1st Lt. in the 11th Airborne US Infantry.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, charter member of the SAE and ROTC of Western Kentucky University and chairman of the Simpson County Democratic Party.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 62,  VFW Post 5706 and Franklin Country Club.

Visitation will begin Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM until service time Friday, March 3, 2017 at Gilbert Funeral Home.
