Joan Pearson

Mrs. Joan Pearson, age 83 of Franklin, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Hospice House of Southern KY in Bowling Green, KY.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 PM with interment to follow in Sulphur Spring Cemetery in Simpson County, KY.

Joan was born on September 21, 1941 in Simpson County, KY to the late Charles Henry Cardwell and to the late Helen Sneed Cardwell. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Pearson.

She is survived by two sons, Troy Pearson of Franklin, KY and David Pearson (Allison) of Bowling Green, KY; two grandchildren, Reese Pearson and Gray Pearson; and several nieces and nephews. 

Joan was a native of Simpson County, Joan grew up on a farm with her mother and father. She was a graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School. Early in her career she was a secretary at Kendall. She was best known for her many years as a preschool teacher at Happyland at First Baptist Church for 45 years, where she cared for multiple generations of children. Joan was a lifelong member of Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. She felt her calling was to teach and care for children. In addition to teaching at Happyland, Joan and Harold taught children’s Sunday school at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. Joan was fiercely committed to the ones she loved. Her next door neighbor and best friend was her mom who she loved spending time with and cared for in her later years. Joan had a long successful marriage to Harold. They were married 64 years and she passed exactly one month after Harold. Joan loved her family. She was extremely proud of her sons. She shared a strong bond with Troy who stayed by her side and cared for her late in her life. She loved her grandchildren, Reese and Gray. She was proud at them and couldn’t get enough pictures of them. Joan was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
