Betty Jean (Hampton) (Mandrell) Burton, 87, passed on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at The Traditions in Smyrna, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm with visitation starting at 12:30pm on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Gilbert Funeral Home, 325 W. Cedar Street in Franklin, KY. Internment will be at Red River Cemetery in Adairville, KY.
Jean was born June 15, 1932, in Franklin, to the late Eugene Irvin Hampton and the late Imogene Clare (Eastland) Hampton. She graduated high school from Franklin-Simpson High School and lived most of her life in Simpson County. Jean was a member of the Scottish Society and the Round Pond Homemaker’s Association. She was a member of the Historical Society that blossomed from her passionate pursuit of genealogical history. As a member of CHAT, Community Health Action Team, she helped raise money for the American Heart Association for several years. Jean was a talented and avid seamstress. As a young girl, she was an active member of the 4-H and, later in life, was honored to volunteer her time to the 4-H Sewing Club where she loved helping young girls learn how to sew. She was also member of the United Methodist Church.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, Harold Dean Burton, and her children, Jeff (Fran) Mandrell, Jeanette (Tobin) Scherencel, Mark (Valerie) Mandrell, Cindy (John) Logan, Melody (Scott) Jenkins and Teresa (Dan) Murphy. Jean will also be fondly remembered by her seventeen grand-children, Marissa (Mandrell) Barrett, Lauren Mandrell, Clare Purcell, Madden Purcell, Andrew Scherencel, Amber (Scherencel) Dorn, Jeffrey Mandrell, Scott Mandrell, Andy Mandrell, Amanda Whitson, Sarah (Logan) Goldstein, Jenny Logan, David Logan, Beth Jenkins, Bryson Jenkins, Madison Jenkins, and Tanner Murphy; and her three great grand-children, Riley, Bennett and Charleigh. Jean was predeceased by her sisters Amanda (Hampton) Guelda and Helen (Hampton) Huddleston and by her grandson, Brent Whitson.
