James Douglass Snider

July 6, 1925 — June 30, 2011


Mr. James Douglass Snider, age 85 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Thursday, June 30, 2011  at 8:09 A. M. at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.


A native of Simpson Co., Ky., he was the son of the late Paul Douglass Snider and the late Alma Briggs Caudill Snider.  He was the husband of the late Margaret C. Snider.  He was preceded in death by a brother Billy Snider.


He is survived by 2 daughters Melinda Pennington and her husband Jodie of Conway, Arkansas and Rebecca Wicker and her husband J.D. of Milroy, IN., a son Paul Snider and his wife Kelly of Evansville, IN.,  7 grandchildren Sara Pennington, Ellen Pennington Steinmiller, Katherine Snider, Molly Snider, Allene Wicker Lilly, Benjamin Wicker and Douglass Wicker and 2 great grandchildren Alex Steinmiller and Margaret Gail Wicker.


Mr. Snider was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and on the building committee, he was a farmer. He was a 1942 graduate of Simpson County High.  He served as president on the KY. soybean association, chairman of KY. soybean promotion board, member of United Soybean Board, charter member of the Pennyroyal Area Farm Business Analysis Group, American Jersey Cattle Club, first president of the Simpson County High School FFA chapter. He was awarded the Ky. Outstanding Young Farmer, Outstanding Farmer from the F-S Chamber of Commerce, Agricultural Community Leadership Award, he served on the Simpson County Water District Board, Simpson County School Board, Simpson Co. Ag Extension council, member and director of Kentucky Farm Bureau, V.P. and director of Southern States COOP.  Founding partner of the KY-TENN Grain Company. He was a corporal with the 4th division Marine Corps and was awarded the purple heart .
