Mrs. Geraldine "Jerry" Young James, age 85, of Franklin, KY., died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 9:34 A.M. at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, KY.
A native Hunting Beach, CA., she was the daughter of the late William Herbert Young, Sr. and the late Kathryn Shoulders Young.
She is survived by her husband Joe Moss James of 52 years of Franklin, KY.; 3 Daughters: Kay Winebrenner Reis and husband Gene of Louisville, KY, Trudi Winebrenner Nelson and husband Jim of Charleston, West VA. and Jan James Murphree and her late husband Bill of Franklin, KY., a son Joe Young James and wife Penny of Fishers, IN: a Brother William H. Young, Jr. And wife Connie. Her devoted dog, Taylor. 5 Grandchildren: Katy Ann Murphree, Jim Murphree, Jack James, Jody Meredith and Brett Nelson. She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Mrs. James was a graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School, Ward Belmont and the University of Kentucky. She was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ, Ladies Bible Class, Franklin Country Club, American Legion Post 62 Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies Golf Association and a charter member of the Franklin Business and Professional Women’s Club.
A physical education major, Jerry was an avid sportswoman. She was an excellent golfer. Jerry was a former dancer instructor and an excellent bridge player. She enjoyed attending Franklin-Simpson basketball and football games. Jerry was a colonizer of the Kappa Alpha Theta Chapter at the University of Kentucky. She retired from the Simpson County Judge Executive’s Office. She served in that office during the terms of her husband, Joe Moss James.
