Elizabeth (Betty) Powell Simpler died in her Franklin, KY home, in the presence of her children, on October 29, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Kitty, Eleanor, and Hildred, and brother Franklin.
Betty was born September 21, 1929 in Sudlersville, MD to Sadie and Luther Powell. She married L. Dudley Simpler in 1949; they raised their children in Queen Anne's and Kent Counties in Maryland, relocating to Tennessee in 1970 and settling in Franklin, KY in 1973.
She was the beloved mother of sons Michael and Mark Simpler of Franklin, KY; daughter Judith Simpler of Nashville, TN; and "adopted daughter" Susan Solnick of Nashville. Her most cherished roles were those of Mom-Mom and G.G. to her grand-daughters and their families: Kari (husband Dennis and children Elizabeth, Gracie, and Michael) Walters, Christa (husband Jason and children Sella and Jace) Conner, and Amanda (and daughter Delaney) Simpler all of Galena, MD.
She is also survived by sisters Nancy (Bill) Kinnamon of Dover, DE and Helen Marsellas of Lusby, MD, brother Bill (Helen) Powell of Langhorn, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend, a long-time member of the Oak Grove Homemakers Club, a reader, a quilter, and a wonderful cook.
