Simpson County's oldest resident, Mrs. Edessa Chapman Thurmond, age 103 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 12:40 P. M. at her residence.
A native of Simpson Co., KY., she was the daughter of the late Robert Clifford Chapman and the late Tina Wilson Chapman. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Thurmond.
She is survived by a daughter Edessa Howlett (Larry) of Bowling Green, KY., 2 grandaughters Tina Carter (Jeff) of Bowling Green, KY. and Laura Coughlin (Kent) of Franklin, TN.; 5 great grandchildren: Will Parker Carter, Robert Coughlin, John Carter, Addison Carter andCooper Coughlin and a sister-in-law Maxine Thurmond of Franklin, KY. ; a niece Marsha Spears, 3 nephews Tom Thurmond and Tony Thurmond all of Franklin,KY. and Billy Edwards of Bowling Green, KY.; cousins David Chapman and Richard Chapman both of Bowling Green, KY. and Bill Gaines of Auburn, KY.
Mrs. Thurmond was a retired school teacher in the Simpson County School system including Middleton for more than 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Reflections Choir, the Retired Teachers Association and Franklin Business and Professional Womens Club. She enjoyed traveling around the world with her friends and loved animals.
