Don Phillips

April 27, 1948 — August 31, 2014

Donald Worth "Don" Phillips, 66, of Franklin, KY left his earthly body to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 31, surrounded by his family at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Born in Muhlenberg county on April 27, 1948, he was the son of I. W. and Elizabeth Phillips. He graduated from Campbellsville College in 1970 and married his wife, Janis Cheser just a few days later.

Don's life was dedicated to glorifying God. From an early age, Don's musical gifting was obvious, and the sharing of this gift was the theme of his life. His music had an impact on countless lives. He faithfully served the church with endurance and with passion leading others to join him in his exaltation of Jesus Christ.

He sacrificially loved and led his family. He was a devoted and faithful husband who protected and provided for his best friend Janis in every way. He instilled in both of his sons a love for Jesus and a desire to serve God with their lives. He rejoiced with them as they too followed God's calling to full-time ministry.

The love of Jesus shone through Don into the lives of his church family and so many others. His love, his laughter, and his legendary stories could brighten anyone's day.

The reach of Don went well beyond his location. From Russia to China to West Africa to countless congregations each and every Sunday, Don's music continues to live on and to lead others to worship and magnify God.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Janis, two sons, Jonathan (wife Amy) of Great Bend, KS. and Mark (wife Parker) of Niger, West Africa, and five grandchildren, Matthew, Mollie, Isabelle, Luke and John Cole. He is also survived by two sisters, Patty Roper of Montgomery, AL and Sue Phillips of Auburn, KY, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Jennifer.
