Delene Hunt Clendining

Delene Hunt Clendining, aged 78, died peacefully at her home on November 18, 2016.

A native of Simpson County, Mrs. Clendining was born on September 3, 1938, the daughter of the late James Arch Hunt and Alma Lee Perry Hunt. Delene was a graduate of the Franklin-Simpson High School where she was the 1954 Halloween Carnival Queen, the 1955 Homecoming Queen, and the salutatorian of the graduating class of 1956.

Delene was a devoted member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church. In addition, she was a member of the Franklin Garden Club, Friends of the Library, and the Franklin Country Club. Delene was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening and traveling.

Delene was the wife of the late Harvey K. Clendining, Jr., with whom she shared 48 happy years. She is survived by her special family, Mike and Kristie Stratton of Franklin, Audra Stratton Henley and Audra's son, Eli, both of Boston, Massachusetts, several cousins and one aunt.

The family wishes to express its appreciation to all the devoted caregivers and to the many friends who have been so wonderful to Delene during her illness.

Services are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2016 with interment to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2016 and from 6:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Friends who wish to make memorial contributions may do so to the Franklin Presbyterian Church or to the Franklin-Simpson Girls and Boys Club.
