Charles F. Mattingly, age 81, died peacefully September 3, 2018, at the Hospice Unit of Alvin C. York Veterans Affairs Center in Murfreesboro, TN.
He was born April 14, 1937 in Springfield, KY, son of the late Charles Owen Mattingly and Louise Hall Mattingly.
He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Western Kentucky and a PhD from University of Kentucky.
He served in the U.S. Air Force 1957-1961 as a pilot and remained in the Air Force reserves many years.
He was a professor of Agronomy at Morehead State University from 1974-1979.
He was a member of the Round Pond Presbyterian Church.
He served on the Simpson County Soil Conservation Board.
He had a lifelong love for the land and was always involved in some aspect of farming.
He is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Motto(Terry), three sons: Michael Owen Mattingly(Terry) of Lawrenceburg, KY, David Mattingly of MS, William A. Mattingly of Louisville, KY. Two sisters: Georgia Mae Tapp of Springfield, KY, Lena Rae Coyle(Jerome) of Willisburg, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Norma Ruth Mattingly.
There will be a memorial service at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, KY on Sunday, September 30 with visitation from 9:00 a.m.-2:00p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m.
Service will be officiated by Rev. Curry Davis.
