Bernice Marie Merritt

Mrs. Bernice Merritt, age 89 of Franklin, KY passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 10:44 AM at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will continue on Thursday, February 16, from 6:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 1:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. Cremation will follow the funeral service.

Bernice was born on September 18, 1933 in Mitchellville, TN to the late Authur Mayes and the late Lucille (Byrd) Mayes. She is also preceded in death by her spouse, Lucian Bishop Merritt; 4 siblings, William Mayes, Eugene Mayes, Eunice Jackson, Estel “Pokey” Mayes, Ramona Mayes; and a great-grandson, Hudson Merritt.

She is survived by her son, Jasper Merritt (Barbara) of Franklin, KY; 3 grandchildren, Justin Merritt, Laura Merritt, Robert Murray; 5 great-grandchildren, Austin Murray, Ethan Murray, Lucian Murray, Jack Merritt, Amelia Merritt; and a great-great-grandson, Grayson Murray.

Bernice attended Hillvue Heights Baptist Church and Drakes Creek Baptist Church. She was a retired laborer of Potter & Brumfield and a member of American Legion Post #62 Ladies Auxillary. Bernice enjoyed playing Rook and loved having the neighbor kids over.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky, 5872 Scottsville Rd. Bowling Green, KY 42104. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
